President Donald Trump recently declared that “God is proud” of the accomplishments he made during the first year of his second presidency. The president’s opponents, unsurprisingly, had a very different take, and his comments went viral amid their furious reactions.

During a press briefing at the White House, Trump claimed that God was proud of him for the progress he had made as president since January 2025.

“Last year, you told me that you believed that the reason you won the election is that God put you in this place so that you could save the world,” one reporter told the president.

“Looking back [after] one year, do you feel like God is proud of the effort that you’ve [given],” he then asked.

“I do, actually,” Trump responded. “I think God is very proud of the job I’ve done, and that includes religion.”

“We’re protecting a lot of people that are being killed – Christians, Jewish people, lots of people are being protected by me that wouldn’t be protected by another type of president,” he noted.

“I think a lot of people are very proud of the job we’ve done,” the president said. “We’ve had an amazing year. This has been one of the greatest years.”

He also pointed out that people who would not “love [him] instinctively” are “saying this was an incredible year.

“We’ve had an incredible year economically,” Trump went on to say.

The president’s opponents had a furious reaction to Trump’s comments, which went viral on social media. Former Obama aide Christopher Hale wrote on Threads: “After being rebuked by two popes, hundreds of U.S. Catholic bishops, the pro-life movement, and major religious-liberty organizations—and after actions that shuttered Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services—Donald Trump said he believes ‘God is very proud of the job he’s done.’”
