Dafyyd Townley, Teaching Fellow in US politics and international security at the University of Portsmouth, notes Russia’s long-term strategy aims to demoralise Ukraine through strikes on energy infrastructure, while the US is pressuring Ukraine on potential deals, exposing fractures within NATO. Still, the “coalition of the willing” is helping fill gaps left by the US, and the alliance is showing a tangible commitment to strategic regions like the Arctic.
