They made the treacherous journey across Antarctica using wind power only: “it’s nature who decides in Antarctica.” They recorded “thousands of kilometres worth of data” that can help answer two urgent questions: whether warming is changing snowfall in ways that might partially offset coastal ice loss, and what the deep internal layers of Antarctic ice reveal about Earth’s past warm periods, including those “more than 130,000 years ago.”
